The picture above is the Navy’s first littoral combat ship (LCS) Freedom and will be commissioned Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, during a 10 a.m. EST ceremony at Veterans Park, Milwaukee, Wis.
To read more about it the Navy Press Release
talks about how it has got it’s name and some of the great things it will be able to do. Although we won’t be able to attend it really should be something to see. The sure size of it is unbelievable. It can speed up to 40 knots.
The signal flag banner that spells “Freedom” in the picture is not the correct size. To give you an idea the length of this ship is 378.3 ft and a 7 letter banner of ours with the 8″ flags would be 6 ft 8 in. Due to loving to work in Paint Shop Pro (PSP) I took our flags to show you what the banner would look like. If they were the right size they would be tiny little specks.
Gcaptain also has a short story about it and gives all the specifics.
